My First Attempt at Using an AI Image. I relate to her expression!
Well, almost. half of 2024 has gone by and I am actually keeping one of my New Year's resolutions. I don't know how I came up with this, but I thought it was "doable". My resolution, "Do What You Do A Little Better" has been working for me, maybe because I only have to be a "little" better at things, instead of say, "climbing Mount Kilimanjaro" or becoming an "expert" at something. Let's face it, at 63, that ship has sailed.
I "do" a lot of things and have many interests. I figured I could try to improve on some of them and here's what happened.
These are the most significant improvements to report. (Oh, by the way, I am a little reluctant to report anything as it can sound like bragging, but I also feel there is good in approaching life at this stage in my life this way and I want to share it!)
Crocheting-Mark Your Stitches
Crocheting! How boring, you might think! Well, I'm pretty sure I have knitted, crocheted, needlepointed and sewn at least a million stitches so far in this life! I love it, because it's creative and I like to make things. I believe I have been given the gift of doing it pretty well, by my grandmother, Villa, who was a professional clothing designer. She was the one who taught me how to crochet in the 4th grade. I feel "it's in my fingers". :-)
Anyway, I gave my sister Dacia the gift of a sweater for her birthday which I made this winter. I thought it would be easy, but it was actually the most frustrating thing I have ever done! Why? Because I would not learn the lesson it was teaching me: Mark Your Stitches!! Over and over again, I kept losing track of the number of stitches and the sweater would start to slant up or downhill. At one point, I took a pair of scissors to it, which I newly discovered you can do with crocheting. (God, that felt good, but did little to help the problem). I ripped out and started over numerous times until finally I marked my stitches and finished. The sweater turned out o.k., although it is three sizes too small. and fits my sister's daughter Charlotte, instead of her! Lesson learned.
Putting-Keep Your Head Still
I am a lousy golfer. Well, maybe I would be better if I didn't play at one of the hardest courses in the world, but that's another topic entirely. There are so many facets of the game, and I love it because it's so hard and fun. Some strokes I have worked on in the past and have gotten better at, others I haven't really tried to learn at all, like putting. I picked putting because at this point, it might be the only thing to get my score down. I have been extremely frustrated trying to figure this out and I can't say I have figured it out entirely. However, I had a recent "Ah Ha Moment" when I realized a lesson I had learned for other strokes also applies to putting, which is to "Keep Your Head Down!" That seems so obvious, doesn't it? But it's not so easy to do. With putting, I figured out that I am lifting my head up at the last moment which makes my putts veer off instead of going straight. So, the swing thought of "keep your head still" seems to be working better! I'm going to apply it to my other strokes now, so you might see me on t.v. soon!
Cooking-Learn to Grill
You would think we would own the best grill in the neighborhood and that we'd be experts at it. Not true. Tim is an expert. I'm not. Tim does not like to grill when he gets home. It's the last thing he wants to do after cooking in a hot kitchen all day. Our grill, a lovely Jenn-Air, traded for a huge commercial pizza oven we had in our garage, stood unused for an entire season because it needed a new regulator. What a sorry excuse not to grill! Well, Amazon delivered our regulator and we are up and running. I am Googling how to grill everything now and it's pretty easy and satisfying. I'm hooked! I even made salmon on the grill. (Yes, I am bragging! :-). I love that I don't have to stink up the house anymore!
My Job at TSH-Embrace Social Media
I am the marketing manager for our company and frankly, I have slacked off with social media a bit. Maybe it's been easy to do because I'm married to my boss, who is not really interested in technology but trusts me to do it, my son Ben was wrongly canceled on Facebook which was so horrible and makes me avoid social media entirely and there was a pandemic. (Yes, I can blame it on the pandemic!)
Whatever the reason, it's a fact that every business needs to have a social media presence to be viable these days and you have to pay attention to it. I have rededicated my efforts to all of our social media and I hope you have noticed? What have I learned? Like any job done right, it takes creativity, organization and time to do it right!
Please follow us on all of our socials! I promise the content will be interesting or at least different, because I have
hired a marketing Intern, our youngest kid, Cole to take over our social media and marketing projects this summer. It's a "win win" for both of us! They learn a new job which will look great on their resume as a graphic designer, and I get to play more golf!
I hope you have a wonderful summer!
